Miles and miles of beach is an obvious and primo feature of Vero Beach. The Indian River forms Vero Beach's section of intra-coastal waterway. The city is divided by the Indian River with more expensive homes being found on the barrier island. Lots of public parks and preserves like the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge, home to 130 species of birds. There is also a boardwalk for runners, bikes and birdwatchers.
