A very charming and small island located between the north and south eastern fork of Long Island. Shelter Island is accessible by a tiny ferry out of Sag Harbor that transports cars and people in a short boat ride. The island is quiet but has a number of old time hotels with big front porches and some great restaurants. Like many northern beach communities, generations of families have been coming to Shelter Island passing homes down from year to year. Easy access to Sag Harbor and all it's attractions make Shelter Island an interesting choice if you want the peace and quiet and remoteness but still would like a little action from time to time.
