Camden, one of Maine’s popular seaside communities is a long time summer colony in the Mid-Coast region of Maine. Camden is known for its summer vacationers of wealthy Northerners, mostly from Boston, New York and Philadelphia. Because of the quaint, old town look with its picturesque harbor and the beautiful scenery, it looks like the quintessential American town portrayed in the movies. The popular 1960’s TV show Peyton Place supposedly about a typical American town and the Rodgers and Hammerstein movie musical Carousel were filmed here. On the second weekend of February, the annual U.S. National Toboggan Championships are held at the Camden Snow Bowl and is one of New England's biggest cold-weather events.
